A three weeks RV trip visiting places in South-West USA including a few days at the Burning Man festival. Three girls, three boys.
The plan so far is to cruise the desert for 10 days starting from LA around Aug. 20 before hitting Burning Man. We don't intend to stay the whole week at the festival, just the last three/four days. Back in LA around Sept. 10.
RV
For this trip we're going to rent a class A RV. Of course the Web's our main tool for looking for an RV. My AltaVista search: +rv +rent +california is very promising (10K+ pages found) (suggest a better search)...

The rental period is approximately August 20 - Sept 10, 1999.

- Death Valley,
- James Turell's piece at Roden Crater near Flagstaff, Az.,
- land art (especially earth works),
- works by Michael Heizer other than Double Negative (see below),
- 1955-75 architecture (private residences, public spaces, etc.) architects such as Pierre Koenig, Albert Frey in Palm Springs and John Lautner (if you leave in a house built by one of the architects mentionned and are willing to let us visit it please let us know),
- FLLW's Taliesin West,
- Lloyd Wright's "Institute of Mentalphysics" in 29 Palms,recommended by Tony Merchell (tm at rapress.com)
- The Integratron in Landers, Ca.. The Integratron is a 38-foot high, 50-foot diameter, non-metallic structure designed by the engineer George Van Tassel as a rejuvenation machine. Van Tassel was a legendary figure, a former test pilot for Howard Hughes and Douglas Aircraft, who made his home in a cave hollowed out under nearby Giant Rock. Van Tassel led weekly meditations during the 1950s, which he claimed led to UFO contacts. He said UFO channelings and ideas from Nikola Tesla and other pioneers in the field of electromagnetics led to the unique architecture of the Integratron. - a Dune rave in the California desert.

- Arcosanti by architect Paolo Soleri in Az.
- Lightning Field by Walter de Maria near Quemado, NM.,
- James Turell's Roden Crater near Flagstaff, AZ., but couldn't get in.

Burning Man
Burning Man '99 is a temporary art community, created in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada. An experiment in radical self-expression, now in its 15th year, it will be held Monday, August 30th - Monday, September 6th. Participants must bring all necessities for survival - including water, food & shelter. There is no commercial vending at this event. We ask that you tread lightly on the desert and Leave No Trace when you depart.
Tickets are $65 until April 15th, 1999. $85 until July 31st, 1999. And $100 from August 1st until the gate.
